Introduction
Can we imagine our own Tree House, nestled in the lap of nature, atop magnificent treetops and under starry skies? For most of us, a treehouse has been a childhood dream, synonymous with freedom, independence, adventure, creativity, safety, warmth, fun, solitude and many more emotions aspired by children and adults alike.
As we live in the uncertain age of the pandemic with consistent lockdowns and tumultuous shifts in our daily routine, many people today are going through pandemic-related emotional stress and anxiety. It is now essential that we reimagine our homes close to our roots, as close to Mother Nature as possible.
Volume Zero’s Treehouse 2021 architecture competition invited architects, designers and others to imagine their whimsical yet practical treehouses. The design of the Tree House should have been innovative and creative, with a sustainable edge. This would have all the necessary functions required for habituation by two people. The designs would center on a unique character, one that reinforces and maximizes our relationship with Nature.
While many entries came up with innovative designs for houses nestled in the lap of nature amidst treetops, the top ones integrated well within the natural setting. The dynamic forms of the tree houses and the ingenious construction are what brought the winning entries into the limelight.
Volume Zero thanks all the participating members and teams for their entries in the Tree House 2021 Architecture Competition!
