Come take a look at what the Jury of Tiny House 2022 has to say about his evaluation process! For the purpose of this interview he would be referred as DG to responses, however Volume Zero referred as VZ.
VZ- Based on your extensive experience, how would you describe architecture? (What role does it play in society)
DG- Architecture is a solution to the areas in constructing facilities to overcome the needs of individuals. To shape up the dreams and needs of people in the right proportion and with balance esthetics. It’s poetry with solid mass, turned into reality.
There are many ways to attempt the same to achieve excellence that serves the need of individuals.
VZ- Owing to your tremendous expertise with projects, what do you think is the future of Tiny House? How should the Tiny House of the future serve society?
DG- Tiny houses are the need of the time. looking at the population and increasing density of people in urban areas, Tiny houses are the need of the time. Though the houses become small day by day due to high prices, and scarcity of land in urban areas, the facilities in such houses are increasing day by day with the help of technology and the right designs. The awareness is increasing day by day, and designers also have to find out the best solutions for each individual to accommodate all their needs.
VZ- What is your and your team's thought process when designing buildings that have a high impact on people?
DG- We as a designer have a huge responsibility towards society and people who give their dreams to mold into reality to us. We are trustees for their future and we need to attend each project to keep their faith alive.
We need to provide the right solutions to the people who approach us to design their, homes, office, work-space, retails, institutes, or any other projects. We carry such responsibilities and try to fulfill their dreams into reality.
VZ- Can you give us a little insight into what’s it like to work with you (The firm's culture, design approach, and out-of-the-box ideas for designing projects)
DG- We normally work on the ethos of "SAHAJ" (effortless) Or "BOLD MINIMALISM". Over the period of time, we have cultivated our own theory of working, which gives the right solutions to the need of the people with the right balance of functionalities and esthetics. We may not be fancy but work with the approach of timeless designs.
VZ- What are some of your favorite projects/projects that you worked on? (What were the most exciting parts about it) & What has been your most challenging project? (What were the challenges faced with topography, local climate, structure, clients, people, etc.)
DG- We worked on very selective bases, and try to give personal inputs in most of our works. That way all the projects are dear to us, but a few projects which we love to mention are " Sanket" (a flagship electrical showroom at Anand). This linear site was really changing in terms of direction, but we have achieved the desired results with the highest level of client satisfaction.
Also, a few Homes like “Madhav" & "Nene" are also which we Have cherished with a good outcome....
In Madhav, we have saved 17 grown trees out of 20 in a small plot size of 9000 Sq.ft. which was really challenging, but we have done it with very meticulous planning.
VZ- What kind of submissions are you looking forward to seeing from the participants? Are there any areas where one should pay attention while designing?
DG- As the competition is for Tiny Houses, then the expectations of occupants are quite high, they need to get the best results within the small space, which fulfills their most of the requirements with balance esthetics and the highest level of functionalities. As a Jury, we are also looking forward that how the designers have to balance that with their intelligence.
How the play of natural lights and elements have been used in overall designs.
