Introduction
As the pandemic unfolded, people were forced to spend most of their time at home. Their humble abodes proved to be inadequate due to a lack of versatility and adaptability. The conventional homes thus needed redefinition, and this Volume Zero architecture competition was about exactly that- Re-defining homes.
A Nano house would not only meet the conventional demands of a home, offer flexibility, and adaptability but also protect the inhabitants from the threats of viruses. Architects, designers, enthusiasts, and others were urged to think about homes aligned with the tiny house movement which also gave experience like no other.
Participants were to design a small-scale home for 2 working individuals, the size of which could not exceed an area of 300 sq. ft. built up with spatial adaptability and versatility at the crux of the design to optimize space efficiency. They were required to anticipate and provide for the needs that the users may need in the unseen future and also spatially accommodate guests and pets. The designed home could sport versatile makeshift temporary yet comfortable spaces for functions that are not core to the home.
Many of the participating entries presented unique out-of-the-box ideas for their redefined home designs. The winning entries came into the limelight primarily because of their adaptable and flexible designs that could transform spaces as per the users’ demands.
Volume Zero thanks all the participating members and teams for their entries in the Nano House 2021 Architecture Competition!
