Introduction
In the 21st century, self-learning has become essential to educate oneself and gain industry-relevant skills. With the revolution that the internet has brought in today’s era, information is widely accessible across the globe. However, many remote locations still struggle with access to basic education through books, let alone through the internet.
The communities living in these disadvantaged contexts suffer as they lack the basic skills needed for their growth. In such troubled contexts, instead of assuming urban migration as the only norm, we must aim to create education incubators that will facilitate learning while people continue to live in the said context.
To ignite the new-age movement of learning, Volume Zero Competition called for architects and designers to envision a 21st-century library that encourages exploration, creation and collaboration between communities. Participants were to design a Tiny Library optimized for 100 users engaging multifunctional spaces for all ages with a renewed spatial experience.
The Tiny Library was to be equipped with traditional reading material including modern formats like e-books, audiobooks, audiovisual books, etc. The space designed would function as a centralized think tank for the local communities to boost public interactions and community development.
Amongst the versatile assortment of participating entries, the entries that targeted sensitive contexts and produced just the right architectural solutions stood out the most.
Volume Zero thanks all the participating members and teams for their entries in the Tiny Library 2021 Architecture Competition!
