Introduction
Women's empowerment is imperative for the development of society. Women all across the globe have made a tremendous impact in various walks of society from education, healthcare, politics, business, etc. However, many women are still trapped in the shackles of domestic abuse and gender inequality. As a progressive society, it is our duty to work in the direction of women's empowerment and one way to do that is by creating sustainable empowering environments.
A community pavilion representing women would serve as a medium to raise awareness surrounding the issues faced by women in today’s society. Volume Zero Competitions called for innovative ideas for a Women’s Pavilion whose architecture would serve as a medium for change. This marvel would symbolize the impact of women and their influence on our society.
Participants were to create a community pavilion for 75 users having multifunctional spaces for women of all ages. The function of this pavilion included a reception and admin area, cafeteria, spaces for sanitation, skill development workshop studios, exhibition space, community space, etc. The competition aimed to promote architectural design as an instrument of social change.
Participants came up with bold yet sensitive designs that would create awareness and stimulate social change in the respective contexts. The most striking entries created an architecture that encouraged and facilitated the participation of women and the community.
Volume Zero thanks all the participating members and teams for their entries in the Women’s Pavilion 2021 Architecture Competition!
